All Swimmers will participate on the Sudbury Swim Team agreeing to a swimmer's code. This includes:
Respect
Follow coaches instructions. Each swimmer is expected to
begin and end swim sets as directed. If a swimmer behind you is on your feet, at the wall, it is expected you will allow
them to move ahead of you.
Do not leave immediately after the person in front of you. Always wait 5 seconds between each
swimmer unless directed otherwise.
It is considered rude swimming if you swim on a persons feet on purpose and it is
considered rude swimming if you do not move when you are being tapped on the feet.
It is the team's expectation that you
will treat your fellow swimmers with respect in the water and in the locker rooms.
There is zero tolerance on this team
for any behavior that is dangerous, spiteful, disrespectful or hurtful.
Reliability
Arrive on time with
enough time to change. Get in the water on time with your cap on and goggles.
Use the bathroom before practice. Arrive
to meets before the warm-up begins.
Self-care
Take care of your bodies. It is the swimmer's responsibility
to maintain his/her physical self during the season. This means getting enough sleep each night, eating healthy food
and stretching.
Positive Attitude
Maintain positive attitude for the sport, yourself, your fellow swimmers and coaches. Swimming is
greatly affected by your attitude.
Mindful Work
Each swimmer is expected to thoughtfully
approach all activities.
If the coaches give you a technique or adjustment
for your strokes, it is expected that you will adjust your stroke or
technique. It is expected that you are on the team because you want to
improve your swim times. This takes hard work and perseverance over a 20
week season.
If you have something you want to work on, it is your
responsibility to speak to the coaches, they cannot read your minds. They
want to help, so seek them out if you have a particular need you feel isn¹t
being met.
Attendance
Demonstrate excellent attendance. The season is planned expecting all
swimmers to attend at least 2, if not the 3 practices. If you miss a
practice, you miss out.
Keep your absences to a minimum so you can benefit
from all that is offered and improve your times.
Responsibility
It is the swimmers responsibility to give the
coaches notice if you will not be at a meet at least 3 days in advance. It
is the team expectation that you will stay till the end of the meet.
It is
the team expectation that you will attend at least 5 meets and the
championship meet. It is the team expectation that you will pick up your
belongings and any trash in the pool area and gyms after you are done
swimming. You will treat the pool environment well, including the locker
rooms.
Sportsmanship
It is the team expectation that you will lose and
win your races with grace and respect for your competitor.
This means
saying 'good race' to the person in the lane next to you and even shaking
their hand at the end of the race. It means saying 'good luck' before the
race to your teammates and competitors. It means cheering your team on
during the races. It means swimming what the coaches put you in at each
meet without complaint and whining.
