Swim-A-Thon
Friday, February 12th (6-8pm) at Atkinson Pool
The team swims in the Winter Suburban Swim League, which is a fairly competitive league, composed
of 14 teams from the greater Boston area. The teams are divided into two divisions based upon size
and ability of the team. We are part of division 1 but we will swim teams from both divisions. The
league requires that the swimmer compete in at least 6 of the 8 dual meets in order to compete in
the championship meet. The Sudbury Swim team expectation is the same with an additional caveat: The
swimmer must notify the coach by the Wednesday preceding the meet if they will not be there,
otherwise it will be assumed that the swimmer will be there. Failure to notify the coach of a meet
absence will result in lack of permission to swim in the following swim meet. Failure to stay for the entire meet will also result in removal from the following meet. It takes an enormous
amount of time and strategizing to plan a swim meet and one unexpected absence can throw the
whole lineup off. There is no flexibility around this requirement. The swim meets have 52 events
and last approximately 3.0 hours. This varies, though depending upon the number of swimmers each
team has on a given day. The team expectation is that the swimmers will stay for the entire meet.
The relays happen at the end of the meet and if a swimmer leaves early, 3 other swimmers are left
disappointed and unable to swim. |
