Code of Conduct

Please read the Sudbury Swim Team Code of Conduct.

Your opinion is important to us, let us know how we are doing.

The team aspires to create an environment where swimmers enjoy the experience of competitive swimming through improvement of their stroke and racing techniques, improved personal race times, appreciation of the team friendships and team spirit.

Practices
The team offers 3 practices a week on MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, and THURSDAYS at the Atkinson Pool in Sudbury. Swimmers are asked to make the commitment to attend at least 2 practices a week if they have the goal of improving their skills and times. The practices are divided by swimming capacity first, and then efforts are made to have age appropriate peers. Swimmers are assigned to a practice time and a lane based on their age and capacity. The initial assignment of a practice schedule is done at the annual meeting. This may change during the course of the season as swimmers improve. Please do not ask the coaches to switch your child from one practice to another. What practice your child attends is a coaching decision and is based on the assessment of the child's emotional and physical development as a swimmer. This is done to help provide structure to the practices. There is no guarantee that siblings will swim in the same practice. Each practice consists of a defined warm-up period, a defined stroke drill time period where technique is worked on, a cardiovascular/endurance main set which helps the kids improve their swimming fitness, and a warm-down period where starts and turns are emphasized. Practices will run from November through the second week of March. Practices are 5-6, 6-7 and 7-8 pm at Atkinson Pool. Please make every effort to have your child on deck ready to swim 5-10 minutes before their practice begins. Late swimmers will miss important warm-up and stroke drill time. Please note that it is the team's general policy that parents refrain from coming out to the pool deck during practices.

Swim-A-Thon
The team sponsors Swim-a-Thon and fundraising drive held annually to raise money for the Swim Team Scholarship .  This substantial scholarship, established in 2000, is awarded to a Lincoln-Sudbury Senior who through his or her participation in the sport of competitive swimming has realized the rewards of commitment, passion, and dedication in mind, body and spirit.  Recipients of this award will exhibit outstanding scholarship, swimming excellence and community leadership.  Past recipients have included Alex Lawton, Alanna Sieck, Jason and Eric Thumma, Chris Baum and Jeff Wurm.

Behavior
All Swimmers are expected to display respect for other swimmers, adults and property at all times.  The team has a zero tolerance policy for any behavior that puts people, property or the team at risk.  Behavior that, in the opinion of the coaches and the board, is inappropriate will be grounds for dismissal from the team.  If a conflict results between swimmers, both swimmers and parents are asked to bring it to the attention of the coaches or the Hutchinson’s immediately.
